Salstonstall provided owners Dooley Thoroughbreds and B T O’Sullivan with back to back wins in the Colm Quinn BMW Galway Mile Handicap. He was given a superb ride by jockey Gavin Ryan and having sat last for much of the race, managed to find all the gaps down the inner to find himself within striking distance turning for home. He picked up incredibly well in the straight and scored by the narrowest of margins from the well fancied Njord.
There was a lot of tension as it took more than 5 minutes for the official result of the €75,000 contest to be called. It proved a long wait for trainer Ado McGuinness who commented, “I would have taken a dead heat. I am glad we came out on the right side of it but I do feel for Tom Madden and the connections of Njord. He is a fantastic horse and owned by a great bunch of people. Many thanks to my Team at home for making days like this happen. I couldn’t do it without them. Special thanks to Zoe Boardman and Adam Caffrey who have done a great job with this horse”.
This was another horse sourced by Shamrock Thoroughbreds for €44,000 at the Goffs HIT sales in 2018 and he has been a dream horse for his owners. “To win back to back renewals is the stuff of dreams. He is a very special horse and he is made for Galway”, Stephen Thorne, Shamrock Thoroughbreds
