There was a lot of emotion attached to the emphatic performance from Saltonstall in the Listed Glencairn Stakes at Naas on Sunday. It was another excellent ride from Gavin Ryan who deployed hold up tactics once again on the 6yo Pivotal gelding and travelled strongly into the race two furlongs from home. He powered away at the furlong pole and stayed on strongly to beat Raise You by three and a half lengths. Saltonstall carried the colours of the late Bart O’Sullivan and it was a very fitting win given it was the week of his one year anniversary. He is owned in partnership by Dooley Thoroughbreds and the O’Sullivan family and it was a first Stakes win for the dual Galway Mile hero.
“It takes a proper horse to win back-to-back Colm Quinn Mile Handicaps and this horse has just thrived the last few months. It was great for the O’Sullivan family as its been a tough week for them but this will provide them with a nice tonic. I am thrilled for Dooley Thoroughbreds who have been great supporters of the stable in recent seasons. This was a great Team effort and I want to thank everyone who played a role in this major result today”, commented winning trainer Ado McGuinness.
Saltonstall is yet another well sourced recruit by Shamrock Thoroughbreds from the Goffs HIT sales in 2018.
