New Goffs UK Breeze-Up purchase Sea Breezing got off the mark on her first attempt under Ronan Whelan to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden in Down Royal this evening for Shamrock Thoroughbreds.

Consigned from Mark Grant Racing in April for £60,000, the daughter of Mehmas jumped out of the gates and got into a nice position early to get cover from early leaders Chris’s Rose and Dream Oasis.

Ronan made his move 2 furlongs out where she responded to lead entering the final furlong where she kept on well despite showing some signs of greenness to win by half a length from the Jessica Harrington-trained Dream Oasis and another half a length to the fast finishing Caletta in third.

After the race, Ronan stated, “She was the ultimate professional and she jumped out nicely into a good posi where I wanted to be. She travelled very easily through the race and I always felt comfortable on her and in control. She was a little green when she hit the front but she loved the quick ground and I think that she can get a bit further. She could be a progressive filly. She’ll progress as the year goes on; I think.”

Assistant Trainer & Syndicate Manager Stephen Thorne saidv“That was our first two-year-old runner of the year so it’s nice to get off to a great start. We think she’s smart, she was a little green when she hit the front but she was very professional in the way she went about it. We could possibly go to the Queen Mary with her now.”
