Spanish Tenor under Cian MacRedmond claimed his first victory of the turf season when winning the Open Week At Gowran Park Handicap on Wednesday last at Gowran Park. It was also Cian’s 50th career victory and his third on the Loup De Vega Gelding.

The 9yo gelding who ran credible in Galway on his last two starts, gained his third success for Shamrock Thoroughbreds when Cian made all the running on him having broken very quickly from the inside berth of Stall 1 to win by three quarters of a length from the Michael O’Callaghan trained Facethepuckout.

Speaking afterwards, assistant trainer Stephen Thorne said, “This horse holds no secrets from the handicapper and has been very unlucky not to score before now this season. He’s been running consistently well for his age and has great enthusiasm.

We were worried about the ground but thought we’d get away with it once as we’ve been minding him all year. He usually prefers slower ground, but got away with it today.

There were a couple of defections and a good few of them didn’t handle the ground either”.
